Elkhart Rental Inspection Program Compliance Made Simple
Root Management helps Elkhart property owners stay compliant without the stress.
The City of Elkhart has launched a new Rental Inspection Program requiring all landlords to register their rental properties and complete a compliance inspection every three years. The goal? To ensure that all rental housing meets basic health and safety standards that protect both tenants and owners.
At Root Management, we understand how overwhelming new regulations can feel. That’s why we’re here to manage the entire process on your behalf.
What Is the Elkhart Rental Inspection Program?
The Rental Inspection Program is a city-wide initiative designed to promote safer, well-maintained rental housing.
By July 1, 2026, all landlords must:
- Register each rental unit with the City of Elkhart
- Complete an inspection once every three years
- Correct any violations within the allowed window (10–60 days)
Inspections cover everything from electrical systems and plumbing to smoke detectors, ventilation, and structural safety. Properties that pass will receive a Certificate of Compliance from the City’s Building Commissioner.
How Root Management Can Help
We’ve already taken steps to support our clients through this transition—and we’re ready to help you too.

Why It Matters
